Linda Faye Lehman has recently participated in a community empowerment workshop with David Patient, who wrote with Neil Orr the best-selling book “The healer inside you”.
Neil Orr and David Patient have worked in the field of chronic illnesses for almost twenty years, elaborating a pragmatic psychological method to cope with cancer, AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Their work is used in several countries and is the primary intervention of the National AIDS Council in Mozambique.
Neil Orr & David Patient’s mind-body science apparently works strengthening the immune system, in fact, it is based on Psycho Neuro Immunology (PNI).
PNI has recently been declared a mainstream area of research by international institutions such as National Institutes of Health (NIH); it is a relatively new area of science, which connects health psychology and medicine. Its main focus is to evaluate, in terms of molecular and cellular processes, the influence of social, cognitive and emotional factors on immune system. A few years ago, the American Medical Association declared “unethical” the treatment of heart disease without some form of psychological-PNI-based intervention.
The new insights in PNI field are slowly having a profound effect on how we view the development and treatment of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disorders, and so on.
In their perspective, Orr and Patients teach the patient the way to rouse “the healer inside you”.
