MOBILIZATION OF READILY RELEASABLE POOL IN SYNAPSES

Rizzoli & Betz (The structural organization of the readily releasable pool of synaptic vesicles. Science 303, 2037-2039, 2004), labelling readily releasable pool of synaptic vesicles with a fluorescent dye, found that vesicle recruitment does not depend on proximity to the active zones. In fact, labelled vesicles were found distributed throughout the axon terminal except for the centre of the cluster.
