MARIJUANA THC, AS WELL AS MUSTARD OIL, EXCITE SENSORY NERVE
Jordt
and his colleagues (Mustard oils and cannabinoids excite sensory nerve fibers through the
TRP channel ANKTM1. Nature 427, 260-265, 2004) show that isothiocyanate compounds
and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) activate a transient receptor potential
ion channel called ANKTM1. Through ANKTM1, isothiocyanate produce pain,
inflammation, and hypersensitivity when applied to the skin.
