Candidate genes for anorexia
nervosa
in the 1p33-36 linkage region:
serotonin 1D and delta opioid receptor loci
exhibit significant association to anorexia nervosa
A. W. Bergen et al. (Molecular Psychiatry, Volume 8, Number 4, 397-406, 2003)
conducted a genetic study on the etiology of the Anorexia Nervosa (AN) finding
a statistical link between two receptors genes and the syndrome, as it is
defined by DSM-IV criteria, in 191 people. The relationship between genetic
variation of receptors (5-HT receptor 1D, or HTR-1D, and opioid delta receptor or
OPR-D1) and a mental disorder like Anorexia Nervosa is complex and its value
opinable.
