FEEDING THE BRAIN

Functional imaging technologies such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Single Photon Emission Tomography (SPECT), functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) have supplied important information about the relationship between brain activity and energy sources, but the controversy over how the blood flow energy supply is regulated, is far from a solution.

New data, as discussed by Claire Peppiatt and David Attwell (Neurobiology: feeding the brain. Nature 431, 137, Sept 2004), fuel the controversy.
